Runway to Sidewalk: Fall 2016

September 18, 2016

Crisp autumnal winds signal the start of a new season and fresh new trends for fashion and beauty. Most trends come from the runway, but let's be honest: the looks aren't always 100% wearable.

Fear not, this post is here to help you sort through three of the fall's top makeup trends and show you how they can be easily incorporated into your every day makeup routine.

Not just for pre-teens and showgirls anymore! Glitter is here and it's been absolutely HUGE this year! On the runways glitter was focused around the eye area, including: on the eyelid, under the brows, and on the tops of cheekbones.

Sidewalk: No matter how you swing it, this trend still isn't very office appropriate. But it sure is fun for a night out!

Make it more wearable by keeping the rest of the eye fairly neutral and natural, and selecting a shade of glitter close to your skin tone for subtle shine. Silver, beige or pale gold for fair skin; gold, rose gold, pink or peach for medium skin; copper, antique gold, deep pink or purple for deeper skin.

Use glitter adhesive or even a thin line of eye lash glue to adhere glitter to the skin.

Place glitter in a thin liner under the brow bone (à la Gigi Hadid for Giambattista Valli), in the inner corner of the eyes, or sparingly on the eye lid for a touch of sparkly glam.

GO GREEN: Lit Cosmetics Glitter, OCC Cosmetic Glitter, Lit Cosmetics Glitter Base, True Glue Adhesive

It's a Studio 54 flashback! Blue eye shadow may have had it's heyday in the 70's, but it's back this fall. Baby blue and sky blue lids were all the rage on the catwalks!

Sidewalk: The look at Jill Stuart was perfectly wearable (in my opinion). To get it, simply blend a blue eye shadow to the crease and on the lower lash line. Finish with a bit of black liner on the top lid, close to the lashes, and black mascara to make the eyes really pop. Keep the rest of your makeup simple and neutral to help keep focus on the eyes and to avoid looking too OTP.

Sill too bold? Give a subtle nod to this trend with a blue winged liner on the top lid. Or pair a neutral brown eye with blue liner on the lower waterline.

GO GREEN: Saint Cosmetics Eye Shadow (Come Hell or High Water), Nu Evolution Eye Shadow (Tease), Alima Pure Pressed Eye Shadow (Cosmic), RMS Eye Polish (Inspire), Au Naturale Cosmetics Organic Creme Eye Shadows (Bora Bora & Larkspur), Au Naturale Cosmetics Eye Liner Pencil (Deep Sea), ZuZu Luxe Liquid Eyeliner (Azure)

Switching to darker hued lipstick is not new or revolutionary when it comes to fall makeup. The difference on this year runways? Lips were dark...real dark! They were also topped with a healthy dose of glossy sheen.

Sidewalk: If you're not daring enough to go all the way black, substitute a blackberry, black currant or oxblood shade instead.

Start by lining and filling lips in with a good lip liner that closely matches your lipstick.

Apply lip colour, and then follow up with a clear lip gloss concentrated on the center of your lips (instead of all over) to help prevent bleeding.

GO GREENNudus Australia Lipstick (Dirty Diana), Da'Lish Cosmetics Lip/Cheek Balm (B05), Lily Lolo Natural Lipstick (Berry Crush), Rituel de Fille Forbidden Lipstick (Fortune Teller & Blackthorn), Axiology Natural Organic Lipstick (Existential), Au Naturale Lip Liner Pencil (Spanish Rose), Gabriel Cosmetics Lip Liner (Wine), Zuii Certified Organic Lip Liner Pencil (Berry), Fit Glow Beauty Good Gloss (Glitz)

Which look will you be sporting this fall?
